A LIL ABOUT US
On a more personal level let me introduce myself and my family. My name is Deanna Southerland.
I own, operate and started Sugarland Labs. When my husband told me he was retiring
from the military and we never had to move again
I knew it was my time to do something I always wanted to do..... I couldnt wait to get my hands
on a white labrador. Well I realize I turned "a lab" into Many labs,
but I blame that on my husband. He should not have constantly said "go big or go home". LOL
So we moved to his home state of Texas and settled in on 16 acres
in Hallsville next to family.
Since then our oldest son has joined the military and been deployed several times.
A moms worry never ends.
When I started this years ago I knew what was the most important to me
and that was never having too many dogs, I wanted it to stay on a personal level
so that each dog would receive individual love and attention, and always putting what is in their best interest firs.t.
. And of course the joy they brought to my life I wanted to sprinkle that joy everywhere.
My dogs have saved my life in so many ways. . I am not ashamed to say between
our family, relatives and close friends we have dealt with anxiety, depression, PTSD, tragic loss of loved ones and more.
My dogs have made me a better person and they keep me alive and on my toes.
They don't stress over the past mistakes or the insecurities of the future.
They live for right now.
All my dogs get lots of exerise in their 1 acre play yard.
Nobody is sitting around in a miserable kennel. Thats a horrible life. Mine get toys,
chew bones, and go to the pond or run with the kids on their 4wheelers.
I rotate mine around everyday so they are not doing the same things all the time.
Also mine take turns being in the house.
But just when I thought my heart was full and my schedule full and I couldn't possibly
take on anything else boy was I wrong.
My kids said one day that we should as a family rescue an animal in need and
nurse it back to health
and then find it a loving home, you know bonding time- making memories.
I agreed and thought it would be a wonderful thing.
Well baby animals on the verge of death literally needing saving that day
started coming out of the wood work, so we saved one and it stayed with us.
Then another and another.... and to date we kept all of our rescues, had them fixed up at the vet and I wouldnt trade them for anything.
Heres the funny part, Ive never been a cat person. I didn't dislike cats just always was a dog person.
but theres something about an injured kitten down in a sewer drain crying
and your husband lowering himself down there with a rope tied to a tree and handing you this scared, hungry, injured baby
and it looks at you in yours eyes and without hesitation, You say well lil one you are not homeless anymore.
To date we have saved 6 cats and a 1 day old baby goat. and Yes I am teased about being the cat lady.
